Call for Submissions

The Symposium on Simulation for Architecture and Urban Design (SimAUD) provides an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to come together. We invite you to submit your original research to SimAUD 2023, held as part of ANNSIM 2023.

Background and Scope: Buildings are the largest consumers of energy, responsible for the majority of all Green House Gas emissions. In a society where work and living conditions are drastically changing, the need for efficient, adaptive and green building is apparent; had we previously thought concepts serving these goals could be elaborated and deployed within the coming decades, we have been reminded by our crisis-shaken times that such changes must come swiftly and to the fullest extent currently possible, given a limited amount of resources and workforce. In that light, we seek submissions, that can apply net-zero systems to novel designs for retrofit recommendations or optimizations to new build designs. Examinations of aspects of the built environment, and how they impact emissions, occupancy, health and changing work conditions, are welcome. Additional topics of interest include:

  • Simulation, Data-Driven, and Generative Design for Sustainability
  • Whole Building Energy Simulation
  • Modeling of Net-zero Building Systems
  • Multidisciplinary Design Optimization
  • Modeling of Occupant Behavior
  • Thermal Comfort & Occupant Satisfaction
  • Lighting and Daylighting
  • Airflow In & Around Buildings
  • Acoustics Modeling, Simulation & Design
  • Urban-Scale Modeling & Simulation
  • Augmented and Virtual Reality
  • Intelligent Buildings & Building Lifecycle Management
  • Interactive Environments & Responsive Facades
  • Digital and Robotic Fabrication
  • Material and Structural Performance Modeling

Submission types:

  • Paper: up to 12 pages describing novel and original research that has not previously been published. Will be peer reviewed by 3 reviewers. Please make sure the initial submission is blinded.
  • Tutorials/Workshops: 1-2 pages providing a tutorial/workshop description (to be submitted to the tutorial track chair). If you wish to also submit an accompanying paper, you are welcome to do so (see Paper).
  • Work-in-Progress Papers: 1-2 providing an extended abstract which outlines your work. Will be reviewed and is presented as short presentation + poster.
